Friends of Mike Patterson Trust Fundraising Goal Met

ROME, GEORGIA USA, July 15, 2013 — On July 14, 2013, the co-trustees of the Friends of Mike Patterson Trust met to discuss the Trust’s fundraising efforts. It was the unanimous determination of the co-trustees that the Friends of Mike Patterson Trust should bring its fundraising efforts to an end.

After Mike’s accident on June 8, 2013, the public rallied to aid Mike in his time of need. After Mike’s passing on June 28, 2013, the public continued to give donations to the Trust for the purpose of paying Mike’s funeral expenses and helping Mike’s heirs.

With Mike’s passing, the primary goal of the co-trustees became helping Mike’s son, Cole. It is the unanimous opinion of the co-trustees that the Trust has secured the assets necessary to make a significant positive impact on Cole’s journey to adulthood.

Each day, the co-trustees are reminded that there are an endless number of great causes seeking donations from benevolent givers, and there is a very limited supply of givers. We understand that we must strive to be good stewards of the goodwill of our community.

We are extremely appreciative for the outpouring of support from the public. Thank you for your support of Mike and his son. We will forever be grateful for the donations that you made to help ensure financial security for Mike, and in the aftermath of Mike’s death, Cole.

06/15/2013 3pm Media Conference Call

We had a conference call with the media at 3pm so that they could ask questions of Mike’s family and the Trust. This is the raw, unedited audio from that call. We wish that we could have invited all of Mike’s supporters to listen in live, but the conferencing system just couldn’t accommodate all of you. So we did the next best thing, we recorded it.

Please keep Mike in your prayers!

Mike Patterson Has Pneumonia

Mike has pneumonia in both his lungs. Mike remains heavily sedated and is on a medical ventilator to help relieve the stress on his body during this critical recovery period. Yesterday, Mike had a high fever in excess of 104 degrees for most of the day as his body fought off infection. Yesterday afternoon, Mike underwent surgery to perform a tracheotomy.

According to Mike’s sister, Tiffany, “The surgery was successful. The tracheotomy will help with his breathing, and it will also make it easier to suction out his lungs.“

Mike’s mother, Vickie, said, “Mike’s not out of the woods just yet. His fever remained high even after surgery, which was an area of concern for the doctors.”

“The most difficult part for me,” said Bryan, Mike’s younger brother, “is to see Mike laying there hooked up to a ventilator because he was always very physically active. For now, it’s a waiting game.” Continue reading
